V-Mail 1942

No. 546

Mr. R. O. Smith
LEXINGTON, OKLAHOMA

Dear Dad,
We were shoved out on short
notice. I didn't even have time to
drop a note. Am on the USS Long
Island with my outfit. We have
crossed the equator with the
official initiation.
Am glad Louise could come out
Hope she stays quite a while. Certainly
glad to hear that RO won the
election. Enjoyed the kids letters
very much. Tell them to continue
writing whether they hear from
me or not.
This has been a pleasure cruise so
far since we are passengers mainly.
Certainly will be no vacation after
we land however don't expect any
more trouble than we can handle.
Will take me quite a while to get mail
from you so write often.
Tell every one hello. Love,
John
